UCSD Medical Center - Hillcrest is the primary hospital for the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The region's only academic medical center offers both primary care and specialized services, including a full range of general and specialty health care.
The recently renovated 386-bed hospital is also the primary site for such regional services as the comprehensive organ transplant program offering heart, lung, kidney, pancreas, liver and bone marrow transplantation; the Regional Burn Center; the National Institutes of Health-designated Clinical Research Center, the Infant Special Care Center and the region's only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. The Hillcrest hospital also is the county's only Level I Trauma Center.
